The City of Elgin offers the following benefits to full time employess:
The City currently pays 100% of the employee’s health insurance premium. Family members can be added for an additional premium that is paid via payroll deduction. HSA & PPO Options available.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
A source of information for employees 24 hours a day via telephone. Limited counseling available for health concerns, personal or family issues, work related challenges. Completely confidential and not reported to the City of Elgin.
Vision coverage is available to employees and family members at competitive premiums which are paid via payroll deduction.
The City currently pays 100% of the employee dental insurance premium. Family members can be added for an additional premium that is paid via payroll deduction.
City Paid Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment Coverage
The City currently pays for a basic Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance policy on each full time employee in the amount of 2 times the Base Annual Salary, Maximum of $100,000. This coverage includes Travel Assistance, Will & Legal Document Preparation, Identity Theft Kit, and Financial Advise to support Beneficiaries.
Additional Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment coverage may be obtained for employees and family members at competitive premiums that are paid via payroll deduction.
City Paid Long Term Disability
The City currently pays for a long term disability insurance policy on each full time employee. This policy pays a percentage of your income after a 90 day elimination period, and continues through retirement age, should you become unable to work due to a qualified disability.

Vacation & Sick Leave
The City of Elgin offers all full time, regular employees 80 hours of vacation and 96 hours of sick leave annually. Vacation hours increase with longevity.
The City of Elgin also offers 12 paid Holidays a year for all regular, full time employees plus one personal holiday.

All City of Elgin employees will be paid for City designated holidays at their regular rate of pay, regardless of the number of hours in an employee’s work day. The maximum number of hours paid for a holiday is 8 hours.
