  1. Historic Downtown Elgin

    Elgin Texas was designated a Historic District in 1991 for the downtown business area. Properties within this area require a review of any changes to be made to the exterior that are visible from the public right-of-way.

    The Main Street program and the Elgin economic Development Corporation provide a number of assistance programs to encourage investment and redevelopment in the historic downtown district.

  5. Zoning Overlay

    In September 2014, the City of Elgin City Council approved a zoning overlay for the Historic Down District creating 2 areas with mixed uses.

  6. Downtown Park Plan

    In March 2015, the City Council approved a master park plan for a ten block area in in the heart of the Historic Downtown District.

    The City of Elgin was one of four communities in Central Texas selected to participate in the Sustainable Places Project.
