Office of the Chief

The Elgin Chief of Police is Chris Bratton. Chief Bratton came to Elgin as the Chief of Police in the spring of 2009. He has a B.A. in Criminal Justice from Excelsior College and an M.S. in Industrial/ Organizational Psychology from Capella University.

He is a graduate of both the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Leadership Command College and the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police. His law enforcement career spans over 4 decades and he has served in almost every capacity in law enforcement during his career.

Responsibilities
The Office of the Chief oversees all aspects of the department and has the primary responsibility for:
  • Budgeting
  • Internal affairs investigations
  • Personnel
  • Staff development
  • Training
