The day includes the River Valley Farmers Market, pictures with Santa Claus, the Quanah Parker Exhibit at Depot Museum, shopping and restaurant specials throughout downtown. Jamie Hausladen, chairperson for Holiday by the Tracks, shared "the day promises to be great fun with something for everyone in our beautiful downtown!" Live music and entertainment throughout the day will spread more holiday cheer.

Shop Elgin FIRSTSupport the businesses and organizations that make our community a great place to live! The sights and sounds of Christmas are all around us as the season swings into full gear. Elgin is home to world famous Sausage, Christmas tree Farms, and many organizations that are dedicated to sharing holiday cheer with those less fortunate. The Volunteer Fire Department Lighted Christmas Parade, held on Saturday at dusk, includes a great variety of lighted entries from floats to horses. And it is a collection point for toys for the Blue Santa program. In partnership with the Elgin Police department the toys collected are wrapped and distributed to local children in need. As Texans, we are already proud of our state, but when you are from Elgin, you get to enjoy the added bonus of being the Sausage Capital of Texas. Nothing compares to ordering Elgin sausage and having it shipped to friends and family around the country or simply bringing a plate of it to the office holiday party. Two of the largest Christmas tree farms in Bastrop County are in Elgin. Folks come from all over the greater Austin area to visit our Christmas tree farms where they make holiday memories together. Free pictures with Santa Claus throughout December at downtown businesses, Christmas window displays, and a holiday concert all add to the joy of the holiday season. Our local businesses and organizations are helping make beautiful holiday memories for thousands of folks in Elgin and throughout the Austin area.

Depot MuseumThe museum is open five days a week, Tuesday through Saturday, from 2 - 5 pm. Admission is free. The Elgin Historical Assn. is excited to announce that a special traveling exhibit called, "Quanah & Cynthia Ann Parker: A Pictorial Exhibit of Their Story," is now open. It consists of over 40 rarely seen photos as they make their way around Texas, initiated by the Texas Heritage Trails program. In 1836 Cynthia Ann was taken by a Comanche raiding party, and over years, she became wife to a Comanche Chief and mother to children, including Quanah. Cynthia Ann was taken back by Texas Rangers. Quanah became a very important Comanche leader. Many people know the basic story, and this show will demonstrate the tragedy of these two courageous individuals. The exhibit will remain in Elgin until the end of the year.
Rotating Mini-exhibits add some sparkle about current holidays and events. The Museum also has an extensive photo collection and souvenirs for purchase. For inquiries call 512-285-2000. Read more or Follow us on Facebook
