World War I Depot Museum exhibit
April 6, 2017 is the 100th anniversary of the U.S. entry into World War I, on April 6, 1917. 2017 is declared a Centennial Year to honor Texans in the Great War. The display will be about the people of Elgin and area rural settlements who served in World War I (WWI). The Elgin exhibit will open April 6, 2017. Walk or Bike to School Day
Friday April 7 Students are invited to participate and increase their awareness of how to walk and bike safely. Each campus will have volunteers to offer support and reinforce safety rules. Booker T Washington Elementary will celebrate with morning recess walking the track.

The first Saturday in May is the City Wide Garage Sale. Residents all over Elgin put out their items so you can find a special treasure at a bargain price. Contact the Elgin Courier to be included on the garage sale map at 512-285-3333
Saturday, May 6- First Saturday Sidewalk Sales
Take a stroll through Historic Downtown Elgin. Check out the specials on selected merchandise at participating retailers & restaurants. New retailers and restaurants are popping up all over downtown. You will find an eclectic selection of gifts, clothing, housewares, decor, art and more.

Bulk Trash: New information
BULK TRASH SERVICES
The City of Elgin has Residential Bulk Pickup every other Tuesday. All bulk requests are to be submitted in writing, at dnavejas@ci.elgin.tx.us ,our website at elgintx.com or forms may be picked up at City Hall. Call in requests will not be accepted. The deadline to schedule a pickup is Friday at 5pm prior to the next scheduled bulk date.
Chapter 42, Article IV, Section 42-272 “Bulky waste and brush waste shall not be placed out for collection earlier than 5:00 p.m. two days before the established collection day and shall be moved from the collection site no later than 7:00 a.m. the date after the collection day.”
Violation of the rules and requirements –including exceeding the limit for bulk trash placed at the curb may result in citation and potential fines per City Ordinance.
