The egg hunt is provided as a fun activity for the youth of Elgin and is made possible by community support.

City Council discussed creation of a skate park at the February 16 Council meeting. The possible location of the park would be at Elgin Memorial Park in the area of the old tennis courts. The Council did not take action on this item. Contact for the skate park project: skatingelgin@austin.rr.com
Morris Hospital Building
Morris Hospital Building located on Avenue C at Morris Memorial Park is slated for renovation this year. At a community meeting on February 13, suggestions for the building's use included an arts center, affordable to all with workshops, a gallery, drama, music to "help Elgin become its artsy self;" to offer the front yard for potential gardening and cooking classes and possible concessions for the pool; provide an ongoing volunteer base with far-reaching results and a senior/youth center with multiple activities. "The building has a good roof with great thick walls and the building is solid and the asbestos abatement has already been done, which is a bonus," said Lewis. Bids on the project may be requested by the end of summer and an exploration for grants is underway. Courtesy of the Elgin Courier

My Reason to Relay, by Krista Marx
After my first timid steps on the EHS track for Relay in 2007 when I wasn’t really sure if I belonged in such a gathering, Relay for Life has become a true passion. I know not only that I belong but also that I make a difference with every step I make. Relay is my chance to do something to help save lives from cancer by supporting the American Cancer Society.
There's no one I know who has not been touched by cancer. I lost both of my grandfathers and an aunt to cancer and have stood witness to countless friends who’ve battled and won as well as far too many who have battled and lost. It seems that more and more of us are feeling its impact every day. It breaks my heart ~ and it makes me mad! At Elgin Elementary alone, we have 3 students who are cancer survivors: 2 are in remission and 1 is fighting the fight of his life – literally. Seeing these brave youngsters as they battle against this disease is heartbreaking. I can’t make a change in their health, but I can make a difference in the big picture. Relay for Life is my chance to make a difference and take a stand that helps not only those facing cancer right here and right now, but those who may (or may NOT if we keep making advances through the ACS!) face it in the future.
Elgin Relay for Life is the chance for the community I love to stand side by side in supporting the people we love in the battle against the disease we hate. I know that TOGETHER we make a difference! Please join us in any way that you can. Every dollar makes a difference and every person makes an impact. Together, we have the power to help create a world where cancer can no longer claim another year of anyone’s life.
