Elections Information

Filing for Office

Candidates for an elective city office shall meet the following qualifications:
  • 1.Shall be a qualified voter of the city.  
  • 2.Candidates for mayor shall reside for at least twelve (12) months immediately preceding the election within the corporate limits of the city, including territory annexed prior to the filing deadline. Candidates for council shall reside for at least twelve (12) months immediately preceding the election within the corporate limits of the city, including territory annexed prior to the filing deadline.
  • 3.An incumbent councilmember may not file for mayor until after tendering a resignation to the City Secretary prior to filing his/her application for Mayor.
  • 4.No candidate's name may appear on the ballot for more than one (1) position per election.

Elections and Voting

The City of Elgin has contracted with Bastrop County and Travis County for election services. Vote at your County voting locations. Election results are made available on the County website.
