Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest

Monday July 3 share your creative energy at the Elgin Chalk It Up sidewalk chalk art event.  This free event is held from 6 pm to 7:30 pm in downtown at Veterans Memorial Park, the event invites participants to share their chalk art designs throughout the park.  Prizes awarded to winners, concessions available.

July 4 Parade & Program

Tuesday, July 4 enjoy the People’s Patriotic parade and Program at 10 am.  Parade begins at City hall, parades through downtown on Main Street and concludes at Veterans Memorial Park with a patriotic program and Soap Box Derby Races from Cub Scout Pack 182.  Free event!  The parade is all non-motorized entries and line up begins at 9:30 am at City Hall 310 North Main Street.

Become a Published Author

Elgin Historical Association is planning their 2nd edition of "Elgin, Etc."  
Stories are being accepted until July 1, not more than 1,500 words.  If you are a newcomer, the first edition was published in 2008 with 81 authors, writing 117 stories for the book. (The first edition is for sale in the depot museum.)  Elgin stories only - people, events, family lore, funny memories.  Click here for more information.  The Elgin Historical Association operates the Depot Museum.  Open Tuesday through Saturday 2-5 in downtown Elgin at Depot Square and Main.

Summer meals program by EISD 

Anyone under the age of eighteen can enjoy free meals from EISD Nutrition Services Department through the Summer Food Summer program.  The Summer Food Summer program will be available at all campuses from June 5 through July 13 providing breakfast and lunch.  For additional information visit

Long Term Disaster Recovery in Bastrop County 

The Bastrop County Long Term Recovery Team has been helping disaster survivors with recovery assistance since 2012. Assistance is available for individuals and families with unmet needs and is coordinated using a process of case management, including the development of a recovery plan based on personal responsibility and accountability. Additional information and presentation available here

Elgin People's Patriotic Fourth of July Parade
Tuesday July 4 at 10am Push, Pedal, Pull and Pets is the theme of the annual parade and celebration held on the Fourth of July. Everyone is invited to walk or ride down Main Street from City Hall to Veterans' Memorial Park. All non-motorized entries are accepted. Food and fun follow the parade with a short program and a Soap Box Derby Exhibition by the local Cub Scouts. For more information visit Elgin Parks and Recreation.

June 6 - July 27 Summer Reading Program 
The Elgin Public Library will help our youth READ this summer!!!!  Ages 2-18, for eight weeks June 6 – July 27.  This year’s theme is “BUILD A BETTER WORLD” with all programs providing fun learning activities and snacks. Click for more information

Hogeye Festival October 28, 2017 

The festival is held the fourth Saturday of October in Historic Downtown Elgin and features food, kids activities, handmade arts and crafts, live music on 2 stages and plenty of pig puns to go around. Events include Lindsy Kay Wing Children's Pet Parade, Road Hog Car Show, Gordon Swenson Memorial BBQ Pork-Off, Carnival, Cow Patty Bingo, and last but not least, the Hogalicious Dessert Contest! Bulk Trash:  New information 

The City of Elgin has Residential Bulk Pickup every 2nd and 4th  Wednesdays of each month. All bulk requests are to be submitted in writing, at ,our website at or forms may be picked up at City Hall. Call in requests will not be accepted. The deadline to schedule a pickup is Friday at 5pm prior to the next scheduled bulk date. 
Chapter 42, Article IV, Section 42-272 “Bulky waste and brush waste shall not be placed out for collection earlier than 5:00 p.m. two days before the established collection day and shall be moved from the collection site no later than 7:00 a.m. the date after the collection day.”
Violation of the rules and requirements –including exceeding the limit for bulk trash placed at the curb may result in citation and potential fines per City Ordinance.
